(King Charles II and Jane Lane Riding to Bristol by Isaac Fuller)
On the 12th September 1651, Charles II and Jane Lane reached Abbots Leigh, meeting Jane’s friends and staying with them for several days. These friends and the servants in their household were unaware of who Charles really was, and when he asked one of them to describe the king they said that he was “at least three fingers taller than you”.
